The North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and the High Point University Department of PA Studies Center for Medical Simulation are excited to present a skills workshop designed for PAs and NPs working in primary care, urgent care, or emergency medicine. Click here to Register.

The workshop is comprised of three stations:
    Basic Airway:
The ability to assess a patient’s airway and make appropriate therapeutic interventions is a critical skill for PAs and NPs working in the primary care, urgent care, or emergency medicine. Airway management is a perishable skill if not reviewed and practiced routinely. This refresher course will provide an overview of airway anatomy and airway management techniques. The educational experience will focus on hands on learning using partial task trainers as well as high-fidelity patient simulators.

    Suture Skills Lab:
Laceration repair is a valuable skill for PAs and NPs working in many practice settings including primary care, urgent care, or emergency medicine. Understanding basic wound closure techniques can allow office-based closure of many common wounds but suturing is a skill that requires repetitive practice to master. The suture skills lab will provide an overview of basic suture techniques and will focus on hands on learning using laceration repair partial task trainers.

    Medical Simulation Experience:
Medical decision making is part of a PAs and NPs daily routine, but what about patient presentations that are rapidly evolving? Whether working in family practice or the emergency department patients sometimes present in distress. Are you prepared to quickly evaluate, decide, and treat when the patient arrives in distress? The medical simulation experience is designed to present the learner with situations requiring rapid patient evaluation and treatment using high fidelity patient simulators. Course delivery will be group based and participants will have the opportunity to actively participate in the simulation as well as in the simulation debriefing.
Participants will rotate through all stations during the workshop. This workshop will provide valuable skill review for PAs and NPs working in various practice settings.

    Accreditation

PAs: The NCAPA plans to apply for 3 AAPA Category 1 CME Credits for this workshop by the Physician Assistant Review Panel. The total number of credits is yet to be determined.

Nurse Practitioners: Credits awarded by the AAPA are accepted by the ANCC Certification Program and the AANP as Continuing Education (CE) credits for nurses and nurse practitioners.
