from Kathy Hughes Langfield, Special Olympics Volunteer Engagement Director
Warren County, NC, has a severe lack of Medical professionals which disproportionately impacts individuals with intellectual disabilities or those who are economically disadvantaged. Many Special Olympics potential athletes are not able to get physicals in order to train and participate in Special Olympics programs, so the Warren County MedFest brings the professionals to them. Last year, the MedFest provided 90 physicals in one day, which opened up training opportunities to 90 individuals and also uncovered some chronic conditions which were not being treated.
The MedFest offers the physical exam that all athletes need prior to participating. If you are a practicing PA in the Warren County area of North Carolina (or willing to travel there) and are interested in volunteering to assist in providing physical exams, please find more information and register here.
