DESCRIPTION:PA Day at the NC Legislature\, held on May 15\, 2024 from 9am-2pm\, is NCAPA’s annual advocacy day where practicing PAs\, PA students\, and PA advocates meet with legislators at the NC General Assembly in Raleigh\, NC.  \n\n\n\nThe 2023 PA Day at the Legislature was one of the largest PA days to date. A record amount of 82 PAs and PA students traveled to Raleigh for the event. NCAPA hopes to continue this momentum this year. \n\n\n\nNCAPA invites all NCAPA Members and Student Members to meet with legislators and your representatives\, with the goal of sharing information about PAs and their scope of practice\, while advocating for the protection and enhancement of PA rights within the state.

SUMMARY:Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. \n\n\n\nSUMMARY:  \n\n\n\nThis 3-hr hands-on and skills-based workshop at South College in Asheville will teach learners the fundamentals and basic skills of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS). The primary purpose of this educational activity is to provide an overview of the general physics\, knobology\, and to develop a systematic approach to utilize POCUS into the modern medical practice. The workshop will provide an introduction to POCUS techniques\, imagery\, and equipment. \n\n\n\n At the end of this workshop\, learners will be able to:  \n\n\n\n\n– Identify the utility of ocular ultrasound in a patient presenting with a visual complaint. \n\n\n\n– Demonstrate the ability to perform cardiac point of care ultrasound to assess for a pericardial effusion and signs of right heart strain.\n\n\n\n– Differentiate between the aorta\, IVC\, and bowel on point of care ultrasound\, and describe ultrasound findings consistent with an abdominal aortic aneurysm. \n\n\n\n– Identify scenarios in which point of care renal ultrasound is useful and appropriate\, and differentiate between mild\, moderate\, and severe hydronephrosis on ultrasound imaging.\n\n\n\n– Demonstrate the ability to recognize lung sliding on point of care ultrasound as part of the assessment for pneumothorax.  \n\n\n\n– Demonstrate how POCUS can be utilized as a tool to enhance care in rural settings.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFEES: \n\n\n\n$400  ($300 for NCAPA Members | $150 for NCAPA Student Members)

DESCRIPTION:This is an all-virtual event on the fundamental approach to Radiology.   \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis workshop will concentrate on the basics of reading x-rays within different systems of the body including Neuro (CT and MRI review\, bleeds\, CVAs\, tumors\, and infections)\, Head and Neck (salivary glands\, thyroid\, parathyroid\, and using ultrasound probes)\, Chest (general approach to x-rays\,  congestive heart failure\, pneumonia\, and coronary artery disease)\, Gastrointestinal (general assessment and common pathology of liver\, gall bladder\, colon\, and spleen)\, and Genitourinary systems (general assessment and common pathology of adrenals\, kidneys\, and bladder).   \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAt the end of this workshop\, attendees will be able to:   \n\n\n\n\n– Identify various bleeds.   \n\n\n\n– Understand the general approach to chest x-rays.  \n\n\n\n– Assess the various GI and GU issues a patient may have.  \n\n\n\n– Identify common pathology. \n\n\n\n– Identify which ultrasound probes to use.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCME/Accreditation – This activity has been reviewed by the AAPA Review Panel and is compliant with AAPA CME Criteria. DESCRIPTION:NCAPA is excited to announce our annual Student Medical Challenge Bowl! This is a great way to review PANCE content and connect with fellow PA students across the state.  \n\n\n\nThings to Remember\n\n– Competition is inter-collegiate: to the extent possible\, each team will consist of students from every PA program in North Carolina. Teams are determined ahead of time\, based on intended attendees.\n\n\n\n– Responses to all questions require a question prefix (e.g. “What is… or Who is…”). Only one response per question per team.\n\n\n\n– Questions must be answered within 10 seconds\, and points are deducted for incorrect answers. Teams “buzz-in” to answer questions as a group. The team that accumulates the most points wins.\n\n\n\n– Register by Wednesday\, June 7. There are spaces available for only 6 students from each PA program in North Carolina\, so be sure to sign up early. DESCRIPTION:The North Carolina Academy of Physician Associates (NCAPA) is excited to announce our 2023 Pre-PA Fair for NC HBCU Students!  \n\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn about the PA profession\, the process for applying to PA school\, and how to make yourself a competitive applicant. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with representatives from PA programs across North Carolina. \n\n\n\nRegistration is FREE and required\, and space is limited to the first 40 students who register.
