The North Carolina legislature is working on legislation to address health care needs as a result of COVID-19. Both the House and Senate have drafted bills that will be heard in the coming week. You can review the House bill here and the Senate bill here. These bills are a result of the work of the House Select Committee on COVID-19 Health Care Work Group and advocacy from health care groups across the state.
The bills include many important provisions including the establishment of a state PPE stockpile, study work force needs, expanded testing, additional flexibility for NDCHHS to cover COVID-19 testing and treatment for low income patients, telehealth parity, and the creation of liability protections for providers and health systems.
Legislators need to hear from PAs, so we are asking you to emphasize the importance of several provisions in this bill:
- The suspension of Quality Improvement meetings for PAs and NPs during the state of emergency;
- Liability protections for providers and health systems;
- Ensured access to telehealth visits
Please take a moment to contact your legislator and urge them to support this bill by completing and submitting the form below. Lawmakers need to here from us, so feel free to share this action alert with other PAs.
