There are a variety of grant and funding opportunities available to PA students:
The NCAPA Endowment has grants available for one student from each PA program in North Carolina. The applicant must be a student member of NCAPA and entering or enrolled in their clinical year in the Fall of the current year.
The NCAPA Endowment 2019 Student Grant cycle is closed.
The application for next year’s Student Grants will be available in January of 2020.
The NCAPA Endowment also offers funding in memory of Lanny Parker, PA-C, through the Lanny Parker Memorial Fund. The fund was originally established in 2004 to fund PA and PA student education on issues of coding and reimbursement. In 2014 the purpose of the fund was expanded to support leadership and advocacy opportunities for PAs and PA students.
The Physician Assistant Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the AAPA, has a variety of scholarships available to students. Some specialty organizations affiliated with AAPA may also have funding available for students.
The FELS grant (Forgivable Education Loan), is a $20,000 grant paid over two years for various medical students including PA students. The applicant is required to work in North Carolina as a PA in any specialty for the number of years they received the loan.
The National Health Service Corps offers scholarships for PA students in accredited programs. The scholarship pays tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provides a living stipend in return for a commitment to work at least 2 years at an approved outpatient facility in a medically underserved community.
The Indian Health Service Scholarship Program provides scholarship support to qualified American Indian and Alaska Native students to pursue health profession careers since 1978. The program has grown to support, educate and place health care professionals within medically underserved Indian health programs throughout the continental United States and Alaska.
The NC Department of Health and Human Services has loan payment incentives available. The maximum for physician assistant is $60,000 for a 4-year commitment.
