SUMMARY:Elon PA Program Great Cape Escape: Be a Hero for the Open Door Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Do you like running? Do you like donating or volunteering for a great cause?How about doing them all at once! \nThe PA program at Elon University is hosting a 5\, 10\, and 15K run called The Great Cape Escape– A superhero-themed run to support the Open Door Clinic of Alamance County! This is a free clinic for citizens of Alamance County who need health care and do not have means to receive care otherwise. All proceeds from the Great Cape Escape go into the general fund for the Open Door Clinic for purchasing equipment\, medical supplies\, medications\, and other needs of the community. \nDate: September 22\, 2018\n5K/15K 8:00 am\n10K 8:40 am\nZombie Fun Run 9:00 am\nRace expo starts at 7:00 am \nContests and Prizes:\n• Every race finisher receives a medal!\n• Superhero costume contest with prizes for each age group\n• We are also having a PA-S Challenge! The PA program represented by the largest team will receive a special prize after the race! \nFor more information and to register\, go here. \nRegistration is open until the morning of the event\, Sept. 22nd\, 2018.\nCan’t make the trip to Elon? Check the virtual runner box when you sign up! \nBackground on Open Door Clinic:\nThe Open Door Clinic was created in 1990 by a group of physicians who acknowledged a need for quality healthcare for the uninsured. The clinic treats over 600 patients yearly and focuses on offering “free health care services with dignity\, professionalism\, and concern for the uninsured and indigent residents of Alamance County.” The clinic is a non-profit organization that offers healthcare and medication to qualified patients free of charge and is maintained solely on grants\, fundraisers\, and donations. The PA program at Elon University maintains a close relationship with the Open Door Clinic. As students\, the clinic provides us an opportunity to volunteer at the clinic and gain valuable hands-on\, patient contact experience; in turn\, the clinic benefits from our help and can provide patient focused medical attention. The success of a non-profit organization requires the donation of time\, effort and money from individual supporters. It also requires an abundant amount of financial support!
