SUMMARY:NCAPA Joint Injections Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SPOTS ARE GOING FAST! Register before January 20\, 2025.  \n\n\n\nThis skills-based injections workshop is designed for a broad range of practitioners who would like to develop or improve joint and soft tissue injection skills. The didactic portion will cover indications\, contraindications\, side effects\, materials used\, and techniques of common musculoskeletal injections.  \n\n\n\nThis hands-on skills lab portion will allow attendees to identify anatomical landmarks and practice various musculoskeletal injections on shoulders\, knees\, thighs\, elbows\, with guidance and feedback from the workshop facilitators.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nObjectives include:  \n\n\n\n\nExplain how the ability of primary care providers to administer routine musculoskeletal injections impacts health disparities by reducing the necessity for referrals to orthopedic specialists. \n\n\n\nIdentify the indications for musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections. \n\n\n\nRecognize contraindications and potential side effects of musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections. \n\n\n\nDescribe the materials required and various medication combinations used for specific musculoskeletal conditions. \n\n\n\nIdentify anatomical landmarks used to give musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections. \n\n\n\nDemonstrate proper technique of musculoskeletal injections on part task trainers.

SUMMARY:Primary Care Psychiatry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is an all-day\, in-person training.    \n\n\n\nThis workshop will equip PAs and NPs at all stages in their careers with skills sets to confidently diagnose and manage prevalent mental health conditions. The focus will be on evidence-based pharmacological interventions and the most recent advancements in the field of psychopharmacology. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will be delivered through a blend of enlightening lectures and engaging interactive discussions\, providing participants with a robust foundation in current best practices\, evaluation techniques\, and treatment options for common behavioral and mental disorders. \n\n\n\nUpon completion\, participants will be better prepared to handle behavioral and emotional health problems in their day-to-day practice and be equipped to apply learned knowledge in their primary practice settings. \n\n\n\nObjectives for the day include the following: \n\n\n\n\n– Assess\, differentiate\, and diagnose psychiatric disorders commonly encountered in primary care.\n\n\n\n– Prepare effective plans to diagnose\, treat\, and manage common mental and behavioral health conditions seen in primary care.\n\n\n\n– Recognize when to consult and when referrals are necessary.\n\n\n\n– Identify new and emerging trends in psychiatric medicine.\n\n\n\n– Devise strategies to help patients overcome barriers to change in relation to disease management\, including cultural competency\, literacy skills and access to services or care.

DESCRIPTION:Registration closes on February 8\, 2024.  \n\n\n\nThis event is open to all NCAPA student members and offers a full day of networking opportunities\, speakers\, panels\, and enrichment on topics relevant to PA students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required and we have spots available for six students from each NC PA program\, so be sure to register ASAP! SUMMARY:Student Medical Challenge Bowl
DESCRIPTION:NCAPA is excited to announce our annual Student Medical Challenge Bowl! This is a great way to review PANCE content and connect with fellow PA students across the state.  \n\n\n\nThings to Remember\n\n– Competition is inter-collegiate: to the extent possible\, each team will consist of students from every PA program in North Carolina. Teams are determined ahead of time\, based on intended attendees.\n\n\n\n– Responses to all questions require a question prefix (e.g. “What is… or Who is…”). Only one response per question per team.\n\n\n\n– Questions must be answered within 10 seconds\, and points are deducted for incorrect answers. Teams “buzz-in” to answer questions as a group. The team that accumulates the most points wins.\n\n\n\n– Register by Wednesday\, June 7. There are spaces available for only 6 students from each PA program in North Carolina\, so be sure to sign up early. DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open.  Find details HERE. \nThis educational CME activity will provide an overview of the general physics\, knobology\, and develop a systematic approach to utilize point of care ultrasound (POCUS) into the modern medical practice\, based on AAFP and ACEP recommendations for ultrasound instruction. The curriculum will provide an introduction to the current understanding of POCUS techniques via an interactive multimedia format using still and dynamic ultrasound imagery\, audio narration\, computer graphic imagery\, animation\, and live standardized patients. This multi-faceted educational delivery mechanism helps enhance the learner’s experience by providing a more in-depth approach to the POCUS skill set.
