Levine College of Health Sciences, Wingate University main campus
The PA program at Wingate University, which began in 2008, is a 27-month long program. New PA students begin in August each year with the didactic phase of their education, which is three semesters long. After the completion of didactic, students participate in a 10 week-long course called Transitions, helping students to become better prepared for their clinical year. During Transitions, students obtain certifications, listen to guest lecturers, refresh on previous didactic material, gain OSCE practice, and learn essential procedural skills. For the rest of the program’s duration, students complete 10 rotations in various specialties and complete their capstone project.
Wingate University, Hendersonville Campus
Dual Campus
One thing that is special about Wingate’s PA program is that it has a dual campus. The main campus is located in Wingate, NC, near Charlotte with the second campus in Hendersonville, NC, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lectures held in person at one campus are broadcast in the classroom via zoom to the other campus for students to listen and participate. Each campus has its own set of professors; however, the professors visit both campuses to give lectures and build in-person relationships with students.

Public Outreach
This past semester, the class of 2023 focused on learning how to better serve and contribute to health equity in our communities. Our Wingate Community Outreach Chair partnered with Turning Point, an organization located in Union County providing resources for domestic and sexual violence survivors. Through the partnership, students were provided a workshop to learn how to approach sexual assault survivors. Wingate PA students also organized a health equity event which included first-hand accounts of people from historically marginalized groups and their experiences as patients. Lastly, Wingate’s main campus hosted a Latin American High School event. Latin American high school students from the community were invited to visit Wingate’s campus and learn more about the PA profession from our students.
