FAQ
What is the PAC and why should it be important to me?
The NCAPA Political Action Committee (PAC) provides an avenue for PAs and PA allies to participate in the North Carolina political process. The PAC supports candidates whose work will have a positive impact on PA practice in North Carolina.
The NCAPA PAC accepts donations from PAs and all those interested in supporting the PA profession in North Carolina. The PAC will help NCAPA develop strong legislative partners for the PA profession and ensure that NC legislators support PAs as key members of the healthcare team. To influence policy, it is essential that PAs build long-term cooperative relationships with legislators in the position to make change for better health care of our citizens.
What is the advantage of contributing to the PAC versus making contributions directly to candidates who support the PA-Physician model of care?
The collective impact is greater than the sum of individual donations. Organized political action is more purposeful, better informed, and more resourceful than actions of individuals acting alone. Donations to the PAC will be used with this in mind.
How much can I contribute?
- The PAC may not accept, and a contributor may not give, more than $5,400 from a single donor per election. Therefore, if there is a primary and a general election, the PAC may receive $5,400 through the day of the primary and $5,400 from the day after the primary through the general election.
- Cash donations may not exceed $50. Please do not mail cash.
How can I contribute?
- By Check: Donations may also be mailed to NCAPA/PAC, 1121 Slater Road, Durham, NC 27703. Be sure to include the PAC Donation Form so that the PAC can comply NC State Board of Elections regulations.
- By Credit Card: Complete the required information below and click “submit.” Once we have the necessary information, you will be brought to a page where you will then click the Donate button to donate through PayPal’s secure server. You can make a one-time donation or schedule a monthly donation, if that works better for your budget.
How will the PAC decide who to support? The PAC will build relationships with candidates who understand and support PAs in North Carolina. The PAC Steering Committee, overseen by the NCAPA Board of Directors, will be responsible for identifying candidates that the NCAPA PAC will support. The Steering Committee members will maintain an open-door policy and support the free flow of information and communication among our members.
How can I get involved?
We are looking for PAs interested in serving on the Steering Committee. Steering Committee members will work on fundraising strategies, provide oversight and develop processes for identifying candidates and distributing PAC donations. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please email NCAPA’s Executive Director Emily Adams at emily.adams@ncapa.org.
