2022
NCAPA PA of the Year
Sam Dyer, PA-C, MHS

NCAPA is proud to announce that Sam Dyer, PA-C, MHS, has been named the 2022 NCAPA PA of the Year!

PA Dyer is a Fellow of the AAPA and PAs in Orthopaedic Surgery (PAOS) and has served as President of PAOS since 2015. During his tenure, he has expanded the operations of PAOS by emphasizing virtual offerings at conferences and increasing the monetary amount and number of student awards. PA Dyer also partnered with NC Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) to develop an orthopedics-focused outreach program for underserved and underinsured patients. This initiative provides rural and community health centers with Musculo-skeletal injection technique training taught by PAs.

Committed to PA education, PA Dyer teaches a casting and splinting class each year at Campbell University. He also taught his first Joint Injection Workshop at the 2022 NCAPA Summer Conference, to rave reviews from participants.

Professionally, PA Dyer is known as a committed and supportive resource for his colleagues. Says NCAPA Member Laura Gerstner, PA-C: “Anytime I am working a shift and need advice on a patient or a second glance at an x-ray, I never hesitate to call Sam!”

While not originally from North Carolina, Sam Dyer has lived in the state for 32 years and is married to a Raleigh native. PA Dyer joined the US Navy in 1984 and served as a hospital corpsman until 1990, where he received the Admiral’s Award for Command Sailor of the Quarter in Norfolk, VA. After leaving service, PA Dyer received his undergraduate degree from UNC in Radiologic Science while working nights and weekends to put himself through school. He then went on to earn his PA degree with honors from Duke University in 1998.

For all of these reasons and many more, we heartily congratulate PA Dyer on being named the 2022 NCAPA PA of the Year!
