NCAPA Joint Injections Workshop

This skills-based injections workshop is designed for a broad range of practitioners who would like to develop or improve joint and soft tissue injection skills. The didactic portion will cover indications, contraindications, side effects, materials used, and techniques of common musculoskeletal injections. 

This hands-on skills lab portion will allow attendees to identify anatomical landmarks and practice various musculoskeletal injections on shoulders, knees, thighs, elbows, with guidance and feedback from the workshop facilitators. 

Objectives include: 

  • Explain how the ability of primary care providers to administer routine musculoskeletal injections impacts health disparities by reducing the necessity for referrals to orthopedic specialists. 
  • Identify the indications for musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections. 
  • Recognize contraindications and potential side effects of musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections. 
  • Describe the materials required and various medication combinations used for specific musculoskeletal conditions. 
  • Identify anatomical landmarks used to give musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections. 
  • Demonstrate proper technique of musculoskeletal injections on part task trainers.
