Primary Care Psychiatry Workshop

This is an all-day, in-person training.   

This workshop will equip PAs and NPs at all stages in their careers with skills sets to confidently diagnose and manage prevalent mental health conditions. The focus will be on evidence-based pharmacological interventions and the most recent advancements in the field of psychopharmacology.

The workshop will be delivered through a blend of enlightening lectures and engaging interactive discussions, providing participants with a robust foundation in current best practices, evaluation techniques, and treatment options for common behavioral and mental disorders.

Upon completion, participants will be better prepared to handle behavioral and emotional health problems in their day-to-day practice and be equipped to apply learned knowledge in their primary practice settings.

Objectives for the day include the following:

  • – Assess, differentiate, and diagnose psychiatric disorders commonly encountered in primary care.
  • – Prepare effective plans to diagnose, treat, and manage common mental and behavioral health conditions seen in primary care.
  • – Recognize when to consult and when referrals are necessary.
  • – Identify new and emerging trends in psychiatric medicine.
  • – Devise strategies to help patients overcome barriers to change in relation to disease management, including cultural competency, literacy skills and access to services or care.
