North Carolina PAs leading the way for future PAs through education.
Alan Gindoff, DHSc, PA-C, is the Program Director of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies in the College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University. As a child, Alan moved around a lot, growing up in Africa and Europe, before returning to the United States for high school and college. Having grown up in Africa where he witnessed poverty and lack of health care, he was motivated to help others. He obtained a BS from Ohio Wesleyan University, where he studied Zoology, and went on to attend PA school at Wake Forest University, graduating in 1992.
After graduating from PA school, Alan worked for the US Public Health Service and then worked in Texas for many years in a rural health clinic. He wanted to continue his education and pursued a doctoral degree, eventually becoming the Program Director of the Department of PA Studies at ECU in 2011. As the Program Director, Alan pursues positive changes to support faculty in meeting their goals.
Alan was a student representative of NCAPA for the Wake Forest PA program when in PA school. He became impressed with NCAPA and the advocacy efforts on behalf of PAs in North Carolina. Upon returning to North Carolina ten years ago, Alan became a member and has supported the organization ever since. He believes in the importance of advocacy and support for the profession and hopes that North Carolina will continue to be one of the best states to practice as a PA.
Alan currently lives in Winterville, NC. And though the majority of his time is spent in academics, he works several half days a month in family medicine.
